Summer Rendezvous, Saturday July 10 & Sunday, July 11, 10am to 5pm.

They hauled logs to build homes and pulled the plough to plant fields- heavy horses played an important role in the lives of homesteaders. The handsome Shires from Taiga Lily Farm are returning to Pegg Garden on Sunday, July 11.  Hop on the horse-drawn wagon and take a tour of this historic site.  On Sunday we are serving up pancake brunch from 11am – 1pm. We are a family-friendly destination and children are welcome.  On Saturday and Sunday there are activities and a craft for children.  The Horticulture Hot Topic is all about sun and shade.  Is your garden sunny or shady?  How do you know?  What is the difference between “dappled shade” and “partly sunny”? Talk to our Horticulturist and find out what plants prefer sun or shade.

Enter our door prize quiz for a chance to win a sunlight calculator. Bring your camera, plan to do some bird watching, purchase a perennial for your garden, and take a walk along the nature trail.

Herbal Salve Making Workshop - Sunday, August 15 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Since early times people around the world have made herbal salves and used them for many purposes, from soothing sunburns to moisturizing dry skin and taking the itch out of mosquito bites.

Last year the George Pegg Botanic Garden hosted a native plant identification workshop. This summer visitors have a chance to use some of those plants. Rhonda Drebit-Giroux is leading a herbal salve making workshop at the Garden on Sunday, August 15, from 1:00-3:00 pm.  Learn how to blend the ingredients to create a calendula infused salve.

Rhonda has been making salves for many years while learning about plant medicines and native cultural ways. The Pegg Garden's nature trail has an abundance of native plants marked along the route.  Join Rhonda on the trail while she points out plants used for the salve.

Pre-registration is required by August. 6.  The $40.00 registration fee includes Rhonda’s recipe, a jar of salve, and enough herbs to make a batch at home.  For more information and to register call 780-203-0331.
